Parents, students will receive a copy of the following Homework Guidelines that will be put in a sleeve in their red homework folder. Please let me know if you have any questions. Homework should last about 45 minutes for 3rd grade students. Also, please be aware that these guidelines are subject to change as I see fit as I prepare them later in the year for 4th grade.
Spelling words will be given out on Mondays. Students will be writing these in their agendas but they can also be found at Spelling City (see below how to log on). There will be a weekly Spelling assessment on Fridays.
Ms. Wallis want students to study their math facts each night. We will be taking a multiplication facts quiz every Friday for the 36 facts. Please help you child study these important facts. Students will receive one grade on this quiz, which will change each week as their grades improve. Those who score 100% for two weeks in a row will receive a homework pass! I would LOVE to see everyone master these by the end of the marking period!!!
REMINDER: SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENTS ARE DO ON THIS FRIDAY.
*Homework Guidelines Keep these guidelines in your homework folder at ALL times. You will be writing your homework in your agendas as soon as they arrive. By using this sheet as your guide, it will be easier to write down your homework. *Please be aware that these homework guidelines are subject to change at the discretion of Mrs. Burch.
Spelling Assessments will be on Fridays 1. Study all of you spelling words (including your NEW (NEW stands for No Excuse Words.) Remember you will only have 2 NEW each week out of the 18 on your quiz. So you can exclude 2 each week on you homework. J). 2. Have a parent give you a pretest. Write the words in your journal. Be sure to have your parent grade your pretest. (**You may also use the test at www.spellingcity.com. See below how to log on.) 3. If you misspelled any words, then choose any one of the activities below to do in your journal. REMEMBER TO ONLY DO THE ACTIVITY FOR THE MISSPELLED WORD(S)… NOT the whole list.
Write the misspelled word in latter form.
Write each word twice with your right hand and then twice with your left hand.
Write each word with a green colored pencil. Trace over the pattern in purple. Then reverse it! (Write each word with a purple colored pencil and trace the pattern in green.) Remember, this first week’s pattern is the ai pattern.
Type your misspelled word(s) 4 times on a computer using a fancy font each time. Be sure to print out and glue in your journal.
Find 10 more words that have the same pattern and write them in your journal. (This first week’s pattern is ai, so you would find 10 different words that have ai that says the long a sound.
RAINBOW words. Choose 4 different crayons or colored pencils and write your words by TRACING on top with a different color. DO NOT CHOOSE BLACK OR BROWN!
Write each misspelled word 10 times.
**To get on to Spelling City, go to www.spellingcity.com. Go to search, teachers/parents and type sburch48 to find this week’s spelling words. All 10 words PLUS the NEW will be combined. There is also a separate list of just the NEW. Be sure to print out your pretest, cut it out and glue in your journal.
You are RESPONSIBLE for doing your spelling homework. I will check to see that you have done this ONLY if your weekly spelling test is below an 85%. It you choose to NOT do the homework, you need to MAKE SURE YOU REALLY KNOW HOW TO SPELL THESE WORDS. While they seem easy right now, they will get harder.
MATH Eureka Math: You will do the Exit Tickets that are in your Eureka Math binder for the lessons taught in class. You will need to put these in your plastic sleeve at the beginning of each week. If we get behind in a lesson you will not have to do this assignment. This first week you should do Exit Tickets for lessons 1-4.
Facts: (from Ms. Wallis) Study your multiplication facts EVERY NIGHT. On Fridays you will take the 36 Facts quiz. Your grade should go up every week. You should know the 2s (doubles) and the story facts (3 x 7, 6 x 6, 7 x 7, 8 x 8, 8 x 4, 8 x 7, 4 x 4– hint 21 candles, dirty sticks, 49ers, sticky-floor, thirsty-too, flippy-kicks, sweet 16. If you haven’t shared these stories yet, tell them to 3 people.). If you know THESE, that means you only have 21 facts left to learn!!!!!! If you add in the 5s (which are SO easy) YOU WOULD ONLY HAVE 13 FACTS LEFT TO LEARN!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!
READING (from Ms. Wallis) Read 20 minutes each night. You can break this up into two 10-minute sessions. If you have a late bus, you can also begin this at the end of the day in our room.
Vocabulary Vocabulary words will be coming soon. You will be given flash cards to study your vocabulary. By studying these nightly, you will certainly make a good grade on the assessment on Fridays.
